Edmund Allen
Edmund Allen (he/him) began playing the violin at the age of 9. He has since developed a deep passion for both the violin and viola, which has shaped his career as both a performer and an educator. At 17, Edmund started teaching and has since worked with students of all ages, including children with impaired learning abilities, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all his students.
Edmund graduated in 2024 from Santa Clara University with a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering, while pursuing intensive studies in music alongside his degree. During his time at Santa Clara, he performed in multiple ensembles and venues throughout the Bay Area, as well as internationally in Portugal and Spain. He has had the privilege of performing with renowned artists such as TwoSet Violin, The Piano Guys, and Lindsey Stirling.
His violin studies include mentorship under esteemed musicians such as Cornell Professor Ariana Kim, and he remains highly proficient in both the violin and viola. Edmund’s teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in his belief that every child, regardless of their challenges, has the potential to learn and grow through music. He takes great care in simplifying complex musical concepts into accessible instruction, while cultivating a love for the art.
Edmund’s teaching approach has been profoundly influenced by his former conductor, Scott Krijnen, who exemplified the importance of building strong, individual relationships with students and fostering an inspiring, yet demanding learning environment. Following in these footsteps, Edmund leads by example, guiding his students to aspire for musical excellence and to develop both as musicians and as individuals. His calm, patient demeanor helps young learners navigate the complexities of learning an instrument, instilling in them not just technical skills but also problem-solving strategies that apply beyond music.
Above all, Edmund’s goal is to instill a genuine love for music in each of his students, ensuring that their musical journey is both enjoyable and rewarding. He believes that a student’s ability to have fun with music is directly tied to their growth and success, and he takes immense joy in guiding them to that point. Now based in Chicago, Edmund is excited to continue sharing his love for music and teaching through his new role at Music House.
