James Kang

James Kang (he/him) is a violist and teacher originally from Atlanta, GA. He received his bachelor’s degree in viola performance from the Juilliard School and his master’s degree with a string quartet fellowship at the University of Delaware. His professional interests focus on teaching as well as performing chamber and orchestral music. He is the founding violist of the award-winning Abeo Quartet, formed at Juilliard in 2018 and previously featured at The Kennedy Center, Alice Tully Hall, and WQXR. James is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts at Northwestern University as the TA of Prof. Helen Callus. He believes all students can find joy and express themselves authentically through music.
