2026-27 Orchestra Auditions this August!

We are holding auditions for Beginning Orchestra and Intermediate Orchestra on August 29th and 30th at Humboldt Park Studio (1018 N California Ave) from 10am-12pm!

Who is invited to audition?

Violin, Viola, and Cello students who can play at least Minuet No. 1 and are enrolled in private lessons are invited to audition for our Orchestra Program!

Students will be placed into either our Beginning Orchestra or Intermediate Orchestra. Audition information for our Advanced String Ensemble (Suzuki Book 5+) coming soon.


What to expect from the audition:

Beginning Orchestra

  • A, D, G Major Scales

  • A piece from Suzuki Book 1-2 (Minuet No. 1 - Boccherini Minuet)

Intermediate Orchestra Audition:

  • 3 scales of your choice

  • A piece from Suzuki Book 2-4 (Lully Gavotte - Bach Double)

  • Orchestral excerpts (DOWNLOAD HERE):

    • Merry Go Round of Life - Violin 1: ms. 55-62 AND ms. 74-82

    • Starman - Violin 1, ms. 24-35

Returning orchestra students are also required to choose a time slot during this weekend for their excerpt audition. Returning students are expected to play the provided orchestral excerpts as well as a performance piece from Suzuki Book 2-4 (Lully Gavotte - Bach Double).
