Tap Into Something Brilliant for Your Child, and Yourself!

In Tap class, I feel like I “come alive and express my feelings on the dance floor.”

“It’s a safe place for me and my friends.”

I love “exploring the new rhythms” and “the challenges” that come along with Tap.

- Music House Students   -

Tap dance is a beautiful art form where the dancer is also a musician. As an American art form with African roots, Tap is an important cultural study. Tap engages both sides of the brain simultaneously, improving cognitive function. Tap dancing can improve cardiovascular health and strengthen muscles. At Music House, we love and value Tap. We even feature Tap in our original, spectacular, and non-secular version of The Nutcracker.

Tap offers something for everyone. Students with sensory processing challenges—needing more sensory input—often flourish in Tap. The dance form is ideal for toddlers gaining balance and experimenting with sound, for growing dancers gaining coordination and concentration, as well as for tweens/teens wanting fun social experiences and impressive skills. Rock Band and Drum students will find that Tap can advance their development through embodying percussion and rhythm. For musical theater performers, Tap can serve as a much sought-after skill set. For adults, Tap offers benefits for physical, cognitive, and mental health, or just a fun night out of the house. Many retirees find much joy and wellness through Tap.

Tap requires equal amounts of risk-taking and precision. In Tap, a student learns to both make themselves heard and to listen to others. Music House’s revised curriculum details our approach to teaching and learning Tap.

We recently asked some Music House students how they feel about Tap class and they lit up by the question. Two even volunteered to record a quick video as advocates in their own voices.
