About Dr. Aliah:
Dr. Aliah Ajamoughli, PhD is a Syrian American ethnomusicologist, cellist, educator. Her musical style intertwines seemingly two opposing worlds: the folk tunes of her fatherland Syria with medleys of her Alabama upbringing. As a teacher, she encourages her students to similarly find their unique voice as musicians. While Western art music should serve as the foundation for technique, students are still encouraged to explore all musical styles that most excite them and connect to how they hear "home."

She has studied Western cello performance with Claudia Shelton, Avi Friedlander, Craig Hultgren, and Dr. William Grubb; Arabic performance with Wanees Zarour and Ronnie Malley; and ethnomusicology with Rev. Dr. Alisha Lola Jones and Dr. Ruth Stone. In her free time, you can find her somewhere reading her latest library pick and snuggling with her dog, whose government name is Lucille Ball but chosen name is “Lucy-fur” (Lucifer).
