Beginning & Intermediate Orchestra: Thursdays at Music House!
Thursday evenings at our Humboldt Park Studio have become busy with the sound of Music House string players creating beautiful music together in orchestra!
At Music House, we believe in the power of community learning. Playing in an orchestra is incredibly motivating, and there are so many skills that students learn in an ensemble that they cannot learn in private lessons alone.
String students have the opportunity to join an ensemble as soon as they can play Minuet No. 1 (from Suzuki Book 1), and can continue in our orchestra program through Suzuki Book 5+ and beyond!
Students who participate in ensembles in addition to their private lessons or MHAS program receive 25% off ensemble tuition!
Students may enroll directly in Beginning Orchestra, and can set up a short 10 minute audition for Intermediate Orchestra by reaching out to info@musichouseinc.com (all students who audition will be accepted into an ensemble, and will be placed in either Beginning or Intermediate Orchestra).
Beginning Orchestra - Thursdays 6-7pm:
Beginning Orchestra is the first step for string students in our Music House Orchestra Program.
Students can start Beginning Orchestra as soon as they reach Minuet No. 1 in Suzuki Book 1, and through the end of Suzuki Book 2 (Boccherini Minuet)!
Class consists of a combination of Theory Practice, Note-Reading, learning new repertoire, and reviewing Suzuki pieces (with duet parts)!
Before students can learn how to play with multiple parts in an orchestra, they must learn how to play in unison as a section. In Beginning Orchestra, students work on playing together in unison with pieces they already know (early Suzuki Book 1 songs), so they can focus on new ensemble skills - listening, group dynamics, following a leader, and much more! Simple duets (both new pieces and duet parts to Suzuki pieces) are introduced as students become more comfortable with group playing.
Beginning Orchestra Students participate in a winter and spring performance every year!
Intermediate Orchestra - Thursdays 7-8pm:
Intermediate Orchestra is for students who can play Lully Gavotte (Suzuki Book 2) - Bach Double (Suzuki Book 4), and are proficient in note reading!
In Intermediate Orchestra, students continue to develop their ensemble, note reading, and theory skills. They learn how to identify key signatures and time signatures (with repertoire in many different keys and time signatures!), and practice sight-reading new music.
Students learn to read and understand conducting cues, and how their part fits into the piece as a whole (balance between melody, countermelody, and accompaniment).
Intermediate Orchestra Students participate in a winter and spring performance every year!
Students must be enrolled in Private Lessons to participate in Intermediate Orchestra.
